Teacher Training in Montessori Techniques
Iowa Montessori Training Center (IMTC) is a non-sectarian
organization located in Des Moines, IA. It was founded in 2001 by
director, Rita Schneider, to offer teacher training in
the Montessori Method of Education. The teacher training
center is affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS).
It operates in cooperation with the Des Moines Public Schools and
Sayre Montessori School. The Early
Childhood (3-6) and Elementary I & II(6-12)teacher training programs are accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE)
under the auspices of the United States Department of Education.
Twenty-one hours of credit towards a Master's
Degree can be obtained through Viterbo University at the main site
in Lacross, WI or the Iowa location in West Des Moines for a fee
of $40 per semester hour. There is a core curriculum of fifteen
hours taken directly through the University. Application for admission,registration
and course fees must be made directly toViterbo University of La
Crosse, WI.
It is the policy of the Iowa Montessori Training
Center to offer teacher training regardless of race,
